Apply for an Original License - Professional Engineers

Candidates must pass the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE or P&P) exam.

Application process

To apply for the exam, see the Exams feature on our website.

If you have been notified by NCEES that you passed the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE or P&P) exam, you will receive your registration number be e-mail from the Maryland Board within approximately two weeks after being notified. You will need that registration number in order to apply for your original license.

Certain supporting documentation will have to be filed separately, such as transcripts and/or verification of licensure from another state, when appropriate. These forms can be mailed (with appropriate fees, if applicable) to the Board, and must be received by the application filing deadline.

License Period: Two-year period from the date of issuance.
